Beach Conditions and Terrain

This sandy shell-shaped beach is approximately half a kilometre wide and regularly receives the Blue Flag award for its cleanliness and safety standards. The gently sloping shore makes it ideal for families, as children can play safely in the shallow waters. The beach is busiest during the summer months, but it still has a lively atmosphere year-round.

Activities at Arenal Beach

Water sports and rentals. Visitors can rent kayaks, paddleboards, and pedalos (pedal boats that have water slides) directly from vendors along the beach. The calm, shallow waters are ideal for families looking to enjoy some activities safely.

Beach volleyball and exercise areas. The beach features several volleyball courts open to the public, where locals and tourists often gather for friendly games. Additionally, there’s an exercise area with equipment for light workouts.

The clear, warm waters are perfect for swimming, and even if the main beach isn’t as well-known for snorkelling as nearby coves, there are some rocky spots further along the right-hand side of the shore (near la Bambula) that provide opportunities to see small fish and marine life.

There are jungle gyms and playgrounds set up closer to the promenade. Parents can relax nearby while keeping an eye on children.

Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent.

During the summer and winter, many bars and restaurants feature live music, DJs, Flamenco, rock music, and Latin performances. Popular venues like La Bambula, Atalaya, Kandhala, Chabada, Baltasar, Carnaval, and Achill Bar often host local musicians and themed events. La Bambula has live Flamenco music every Sunday afternoon throughout the year, beginning at 5pm.

There are several nightlife spots that offer dancing and late-night gatherings. Venues like Kandhala, Discoteca Socco, and Achill attract visitors looking to enjoy music, and dance. Themed nights and DJs are frequent attractions at these locations.

The lights along the beach path create a scenic setting for evening walks, and the relaxing sound of the waves add to the ambience. You will often find street performers doing magic tricks and shows for kids.

Many of the beachside bars serve cocktails well into the night, providing a relaxed, seaside vibe. Bambula and Chabada offer a range of cocktails and drinks, with seating that faces the water, ideal for unwinding after a day in the sun. While Octopus provides rock music with a good selection of affordable beers.

There are some shaded spots under the palm trees, however, they fill up quickly. Occasional jellyfish and seaweed may appear, so check local updates on water conditions.
